I am committed to making my classroom and safe and inviting classroom. I have high standards for respect between me and my students. As I believe that each student is unique, I also believe that classroom management strategies will vary among them. It is within my philosophy to help every student become successful in more than just academics. They will have the opportunity to practice important life skills in my classroom. They will learn from experience and develop social, mental, and emotional skills. My classroom will exude respect and kindness.
I believe small groups are the most effective classroom arrangement. Sometimes, other arrangements are necessary (there is a time and place for everything!), but small groups will accomplish most of my goals. I will have 4-5 students sitting at large tables, where they all face inward and toward each other. This gives me the opportunity to float around the classroom. This gives the students the opportunity to explore and discover with their peers.
Finally, I am a firm believer in creative outings. By this I mean - ways for students to express themselves other than speaking or writing. I will allow my students to produce and present their work in a way that works for them. My students will be given the opportunity to incorporate artistic qualities in their daily work.
